Mega drop-downs beat regular drop-down menus

Intranets use drop-down navigation menus, right? Well Jakob says Mega Menus are the new cat in town.

Our most respected and second favourite web guru, Jakob Nielsen, has been looking at drop-down menus. We’re talking about the navigation menus on websites.

I notice some drop-down menus just drop down, and some have slide-out drop-down menus too, with a second layer of navigation.

Then there are the mega menus that we see on Amazon and other large sites. Jakob has taken a look at them, and his studies show that they’re cool, they work, and they help.

So I’m wondering if anyone knows of a Content Management System (CMS) that auto-builds these navigation elements for us? Or do we have to hand craft them? I’m wondering, because, I’m betting the mega approach would work well on an intranet, for our web-weary, busy workforce.
